Chase One Rabbit

There’s an old Chinese proverb: “The man who chases two rabbits, catches neither.” If you want to succeed at something, then focus on that one thing. It’s a philosophy we have embraced at Western Lettings by choosing to stick to our knitting and focus our energy on lettings.

The Power of Focus

It gives us the chance to fully commit, to innovate, and to be so intent on improving that it is like a hobby or a game. We blur the line between work and play.

The Downside of Divided Attention

Seen another way, consider an estate agent that provides two services, say lettings and sales. Since sales are more profitable than lettings, it is natural to expend more effort there. Investments in marketing, systems, technology, and people will inevitably flow to the sales effort. It is no wonder that lettings is often seen in the sector as the ugly sister of sales.

The Shift Towards Specialisation

The world has changed. Customers can more readily find specialist products and services. As an example, I just Googled “artists specialising in painting horses” and found compelling evidence that Emily Johnson, based in Gloucestershire, is a good bet.

Our Commitment to Excellence

At Western Lettings, we have focused on our one thing so much that we can guarantee our service:

  • If we mess up, we mop up. If we make an error which results in a financial loss for you, we will make good the loss and compensate you for the hassle.
  • We guarantee to answer your call within six rings. If your call goes to voicemail during office hours, we will refund your monthly management fee.
  • We guarantee to respond to your email the same day. Any email received by 16:30 on any business day will receive a cogent response on the same day, or we will refund your monthly management fee.

A Guarantee Over Advice

I could have written an article titled “Ten things to look for when choosing a letting agent,” but I believe a solid guarantee is better. If you are considering appointing a letting agent, why not ask them if they have any guarantee?
